Itinerary:

Meet your local guide at the Olympic Sculpture Park to begin this Seattle cycling tour. The park, a former industrial site, is now a nine-acre green space for art. Starting our journey from here means we’re able to experience a variety of sculpture in an outdoor setting, while enjoying the incredible views and beauty of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound.

 

We head off and cycle along glistening Elliot Bay, one of the most stunning waterfront rides in the nation. Time permitting there may be an opportunity to ride all the way to Seattle’s largest natural park, Discovery Park. Otherwise we’ll continue on to the Ballard Locks, which link the salty Puget Sound with the fresh waters of Seattle’s urban lakes. Take the time here to observe the parade of sailboats, yachts, fishing boats and kayaks making passage. Stop by the fish ladder to watch salmon navigate their way through the ladder, adjusting to the 21 steps of salt along the way. The ladder was built to enable these salmon to pass between fresh and salt water. If we’re lucky, we may even see a hungry sea lion hanging out nearby.

 

After a leisurely spin along the ship canal we arrive at Fisherman’s Terminal and the F/V “Sea Star”; the vessel used in the Emmy award-winning television series that spotlights the world of sea-crab fishing. Continuing down the canal we ride through the funky neighbourhood of Fremont, the self-proclaimed ‘Center of the Universe’, and here we make a stop to enjoy some ice cream.

 

Finally we head to Lake Union to be greeted by kayakers, floating homes, seaplanes and the sparkling ‘Emerald City’ skyline! We’ll even catch a glimpse of the “Sleepless in Seattle” floating home before finishing this Seattle cycling adventure.
