Does it really rain all the time in Seattle?

Absolutely not! The notoriously rainy winters in Seattle can be dreary - but we certainly have our fair share of sunny days even in December! Since Seattle does encounter a fair share of overcast days, it has developed into a city with much to do in any weather forecast!

If you’re a snowboarder or skier, the winter months are the best time to go! Plenty of snow in the mountains - you can go skiing just 45 minutes away from Seattle!

While the winter rains can be gloomy, the result in the springtime is worth the wait for sunshine - everything is green, lush and absolutely beautiful. In the spring time when the sun comes out, everyone is outdoors in the city - on the piers, picnic tables, and soaking up the sunshine on Lake Union and quickly forgetting it ever rained in the winter.

When it does rain, it shouldn’t stop you from doing any of your planned activities, as long as you have rain gear on hand. Seattle is known for drizzly rain - not the strong downpour you may have witnessed on the East Coast - so a simple rain jacket fixes any rainy day problem!

If you're looking for warm, sunny weather, the summer months are your best bet.  The summer temperatures are usually a pleasant 75, although there are occasional heat waves that bring it up to the high 80s or low 90s. Summers in Seattle are incredible - warm weather every day with the sun shining on the green mountainous landscapes and the numerous bodies of water! It is surely a sight to see and a perfect place for your outdoor adventures! You’ll find everybody outside kayaking, sailing Puget Sound, walking, running, and sitting in the afternoon sun.

Because of Seattle’s famous coffee culture and vibrant music scene, there are plenty of things to do if you happen to get caught in the infamous Seattle downpours. The excellent coffee and one of your warmer sweaters will get you through the rainy days and the local brew and concerts on the rainy nights.
